Drone Flying

Thank you for your interest in drone flying in the Bembridge aerodrome area.

As you will undoubtedly appreciate, the EGHJ runway / corridor extends out over the Whitecliff Bay coast for aircraft departing on 12 and / or landing on 30. In some weather conditions, runway 23/05 is used, with the centerline extending out and over Bembridge harbour. Mostly, during the week, the air ground radio service is unmanned. Inbound pilots ‘blind call’, often negotiating with each other on 123.255 MHz. All traffic circuits are conducted to the north of the field. Aircraft descend to the south, over the sea. You will find our full operational details on this website.  The ability of pilots to Identify and avoid UAV traffic whilst arriving or departing can present a serious risk to visiting pilots & drone operators. Therefore we ask you comply with CAA regulations and not to fly within the airfield boundary or near to, or in, the extended centreline corridors.

Whilst we cannot give permission for you to operate within any active space, it may be useful for you to know what’s going on with traffic: in good weather conditions we can get very busy! Our personal advice would be not to fly in the Whitecliff Bay area during airfield operational hours. Outside of these hours, there remains the possibility of late arrivals or departures. Finally, if you decide to fly in the Bembridge area, then please call the airfield phone to let us know where, when and for how long you will be flying. If the office is unmanned, then do leave a message. You should comply with all CAA regulations and safety bulletin’s. Tel: 01983 873051
